August Recap: Birthday Vibes, Dance Challenges, and Unexpected Adventures
August was a whirlwind! I celebrated my 41st birthday on the 4th, and let me just say, thank you to everyone who blessed me with birthday money—it was much needed and much appreciated! 🎉 My day was spent on a gorgeous pontoon boat, cruising around the lake, fishing, and soaking in nature. I even caught two pike fish! We made a pit stop at a beachside location to explore some shipwrecks, which was unexpectedly fascinating. To top it off, a fellow community member from my Black Travel Tribe surprised me last minute and joined in on the festivities. It was a sweet reminder that even in the most remote places, community finds a way to come together.
Of course, I couldn’t let my birthday pass without my traditional crab leg dinner. I cooked it myself and then promptly went to bed early—because, honestly, that’s how you celebrate your 40s: good food and good rest!
Dancing Through Mercury Retrograde: The 31-Day Dance Challenge
August was also the month I finally committed to something I’ve been talking about for years—my 31-day dance challenge. I danced freestyle every single day, sharing 30 to 60-second clips of my routines with a theme word in mind. I’ve got to tell you, it was a challenge in every sense of the word. Mercury was retrograding hard, and I faced every obstacle you can imagine: technical issues, motivation struggles, and of course, my inner perfectionist running wild.
But I pushed through, and I’m so proud to say I completed the challenge. You can check out my reflections on the experience in this video: 31-Day Dance Challenge Reflections. It was terrifying at times, but it also reminded me of how much I love dance. Plus, it was a great way to stay consistent with content creation, which has been a huge focus of mine this month.
Queen Tasha TV Is Back!
Speaking of content, I’ve been back on my YouTube grind! Queen Tasha TV has returned with scheduled posts every Monday at 7 PM EST. Thanks to a little pre-planning (I had three out of five weeks ready before August even started), I’ve been able to stay on top of it. I hosted a live session at the start of the month, and I’m thrilled to be back in the swing of things. I am embracing vulnerability by introducing "Storytime" to share my life's history and insights to allow my audience to get to know me better. I'm planning to focus more on dancing, but I've decided to take a break from dance production for now.
The Garden Progress
On the homestead front, my garden is slowly flourishing, although I’m not sure if I’ll get to enjoy the fruits of my labor before I leave. I’ve got watermelon, cucumbers, corn, and potatoes growing, but time will tell. But I enjoy the process and journey of caring for plants and taking responsibility for my food production. What I do know for sure is that my cannabis plants will be making the trip with me to Arizona!
The Prototype Setbacks:
In Eco Throne news, the prototype finally arrived! It took me a couple of weeks to open the box because I wanted to film the unboxing and installation in the RV. But when I finally did, my reaction was bittersweet. I’m excited that it’s here, but the quality isn’t what I expected. We were definitely let down by the engineering company, and things arrived damaged. So while it’s great to have something tangible, it’s not yet functional, and I’m trying to figure out how to move forward. If any handy friends out there want to lend a hand, hit me up!
Pup Adventures and Monsoon Mosquitos
The pups have been their usual entertaining selves. Daria is finally out of her stubborn phase where she demanded to be carried from the house to the street before going for a walk. And Dude? He decided to chase a deer down the street at lightning speed, which gave me a mini heart attack. Thankfully, he didn’t catch it (because then what?!) but he’s now obsessed with hunting lizards after catching one in the bathroom. Don’t worry, I didn’t let him eat it, but he’s got his eyes on a new lizard hangout at the campground that keeps him busy.
The monsoon season brought fierce mosquitos, I'm talking weaponized drones, making me question my decision to take an outdoor job. But on the bright side, I’ve planted 38 native baby trees as part of my work. It’s kind of magical to think that years from now, I’ll be able to return and see those trees fully grown—a living legacy I’m leaving behind.
September Goals: Staying Consistent and Preparing for the Next Chapter
As we move into September, my main goal is to stay consistent with content creation. I’ve got to keep this momentum going. I’m also finalizing my winter plans, and right now, Southern Arizona is looking like my next destination. Mexico is still on the table, because with the Eco Throne’s delayed release, there’s no rush to stay here longer. My goal is to leave Colorado by mid to late October to avoid snow.
I’m also looking be back to gig work like Instawork, Rover, and house-sitting to get me through the winter. Plus, I want to upgrade my off-grid setup with portable solar and get new house batteries before I leave so I can boondock more efficiently. If it gets too cold and Mexico hasn’t panned out yet, I’ll head back to Texas from January to April, right on the beach. I’m weighing the logistics and costs of traveling into Mexico with my RV and dogs versus just flying or taking a bus and renting a place. September will be all about figuring out those logistics.
So, that’s where I’m at! Balancing work, content creation, building my empire, taking care of the pups, and adulting—there’s never a dull moment. Let’s hope for a magical gift of money from the universe so I can enjoy the next phase with some smooth sailing ahead!
